Occupational Therapy
DIRFloortime®
At Whole Child Wellness, play isn’t just a means, it an end! Play is a child’s most important occupation! Through play, children can learn to regulate their nervous system, become better communicators, and learn to solve problems big and small! Using a DIRFloortime® framework, we use the power of relationships and emotional connections to fuel development to help every child reach their fullest potential!
SENSORY INTEGRATION
Sensory integration therapy aims to enable children to accurately detect, and appropriately modulate their responses to their sensory environment. When a child over-responds or under-responds to sensations, simple routines at home or school become challenging. Each session provides opportunities for your child to navigate obstacles, learn to be aware of their environment, and move their body in controlled, more independent fashion. Your therapist guides your child to execute play-based challenges that are intrinsically motivating, which supports lasting cognitive development- not just rote “skill building”.
PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY
Pelvic Floor OT primarily addresses incontinence and potty training delays or regression for children of all ages. Nighttime and daytime accidents can be emotionally challenging for children and their families, impacting home, school and extra-curricular activities. Our holistic approach considers the whole child and the role that GI, nutrition, sensory preferences, habits and routines impact the child’s toileting independence.
PEDIATRIC FEEDING THERAPY
Feeding & Eating Therapy at Whole Child Wellness is trauma-informed and empowers children who struggle with extreme picky eating, or sensory sensitivities around food. Feeding Therapy supports children to develop safe and comfortable eating habits, improve oral motor skills, and slowly expand food acceptance to ensure they receive proper nutrition through play, meal preparation and positive food experiences.
